Scroll Mapping

analysys board 2The conceptual investigation and the material strategy of each scroll were separated and considered independent parts in order to conduct a comparative analysis of both elements in the five scrolls.  The extracted conceptual matter was then
reduced to the form of statements in an attempts to reveal the underlying inner most logic.  Parallels were identified as well as incongruencies as the potential elements for a collective investigation. Through the suspension of meaning within
the analysis of the material strategy, basic techniques are able to be classified into families based solely on their physical operations.    After the breakdown and classification of both the material logic and the conceptual driving force behind
each individual investigation, common denominators are identified as the potential qualifiers and techniques for a synthesized conceptual investigation to be reintroduced via a more complex material strategy.

Cau Long Bridge in Hanoi, Vietnam was chosen as the site for the development of the project. The bridge constructed by Gustave Eiffel in 1903 is a 1800m steel structure connecting the eastern part of Hanoi to the old market area. It offers space for a train, bicycles and scooters only. More importantly, the bridge interfaces with an agricultural isle in the middle of the river, which is used seasonally as tides allow. Along its length, the bridge houses small market conditions, and as a connection to the lower isle, for the transport of the goods produced there. The project aims to take advantage of this intense market/transport condition, and heighten its characteristics through a dynamic architectural proposal. Following drawings collect data and propose conditions arrived at through inflections of the line of the bridge.

the lug

lug.07.09

The lug contains in it the vectors of recieved parts. Therefore, as a connection piece, it hints at a larger assembly. We will be investing alot of time into the design and fabrication of custom lugs to receive the tubular members of our new constructed frame. Materials in this investigation include silcone molds, styrene vacuum form molds, 3d printed molds and resin casts. Read the rest of this entry »
